Why “why & because” matters
'Why?' is the question that never ends — and that's wonderful, because every why is your child reaching for a reason. 'Because' is its partner: the word that links a cause to what happened. Together they power explanation, prediction and problem-solving — the exact language school will ask for. Pretend play is the perfect gym: characters get hungry, tired, stuck and muddy, and every little drama needs a reason.
How to teach it — 4 simple steps

Give the characters problems and wonder out loud: 'Oh no, the bucket went DOWN! WHY did it tip?' Any reason your child offers is gold.

Model 'because' answers warmly and simply: 'He's sad BECAUSE he lost his hat.' Then find the hat together.

Answer their whys with short, real reasons — then bounce one back: 'Why do YOU think the truck stopped?'

Play 'silly reasons': 'The cow is on the roof because… he wanted to see the moon!' Laughing at reasons is still reasoning.
