Why “in & out” matters
Location words (in, out, on, under) are the scaffolding of longer sentences — and they're learned through the body first. Every time your child drops a block in a bucket, pokes a quill into a hedgehog, or nests one cup inside another, they're feeling what 'in' and 'out' mean. These three toys are essentially hundreds of in/out repetitions disguised as fun.
How to teach it — 4 simple steps

Narrate the action at the exact moment it happens: 'IN! The block went IN!'

Emphasize the word with your voice — make 'in' and 'out' the loudest words in the sentence.

Play the reverse game: tip everything OUT with a dramatic 'out!' Toddlers adore dumping.

Level up by hiding toys and asking: 'Is it IN the box? Take it OUT!'
