About Teach & Speech
Hi, I’m Julia — a speech pathologist who believes play is the plan
B.App.Sc. (Sp.Path.), M.Hlth.Sc., CPSP · Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

Why this site exists
In more than a decade as a speech pathologist, the question parents ask me most isn’t about therapy techniques. It’s: “What toys should I buy — and what do I actually say when we play?”
Toy boxes are full of expensive things that flash and sing but never spark a single word. The research is clear: children learn language from back-and-forth interaction with you, not from batteries. The right toy simply creates the moment — you create the language.
So I built Teach & Speech: a hand-picked toy library where every single toy comes with Bronze, Silver and Gold language goals, real word lists, and scripts you can use tonight. No guesswork, no jargon — just play that builds talk.
Real credentials
Bachelor of Applied Science in Speech Pathology, Master of Health Science, and Certified Practising Speech Pathologist. Everything here reflects evidence-based practice in early language development.
A parent-first approach
You are your child’s best language teacher — you’re there for the thousands of little moments a professional never sees. My job here is to hand you the words for those moments.
Storybooks that do the work for you
My Woodland Friends storybooks are built around the exact words toddlers need first — each one comes with a parent information sheet, so the strategies come with the story. Find them in the book shop.
Where to next?
Teach & Speech is my home for parents and little talkers — start with your child's level, then follow the Talking Journey at your own pace.
